While this isn't the previously confirmed Xbox Project Helix, the true next-gen hardware currently being developed by Microsoft, it's definitely a premium bit of kit. And it has a price tag to match. ASUS and Xbox have now officially opened pre-orders for the ROG Xbox Ally X20, a powerful new handheld gaming PC that launches October 15. Gamers can either purchase the device on its own, or pick it up as part of a bundle. Either way, you might want to consider selling a kidney to pay for it. In the U.S., customers can now pre-order the ROG Xbox Ally X20 standalone model, which is an eye-watering $1,299.99. Meanwhile, the fully loaded ROG Xbox Ally X20 Bundle, which includes ROG Glasses, is a princely $2,499.99. You also get a dbrand Killswitch and custom Pelican Case as part of the bundle. Pre-orders are available now via the ASUS website and at Best Buy in the US. "The ROG XBOX Ally X20 is an evolution and a celebration of everything that made the original ROG XBOX Ally special," proclaims the product description. "Featuring translucent black plastic for the chassis, it harkens back to a distinct era of gaming that veterans will remember fondly. This translucence also offers a peek under the hood to the revamped high-performance cooling system and incredible handheld silicon from AMD, with just a hint of the gold-accented internal structure." "Crafted exclusively for the 20th anniversary of the formation of the Republic of Gamers in 2006, this special edition ROG XBOX Ally X20 is sure to look incredible in any collection. Gamers can pick their perfect loadout and celebrate 20 years of ROG." Despite the price, this does look to be a significant upgrade on the previous ROG Xbox Ally, with the most notable improvement being a 7.4-inch OLED panel. If you've the money to spare, you might as well go for it. It's not like consoles in general are getting any cheaper, and at this rate the PlayStation 6 and Xbox Project Helix are going to cost a small fortune too.
