CaneSport’s Response: This one’s a bit of a throwback to when the thread started … but it’s kept going and going and going. Yes, it was Gary Ferman’s July Q&A thread, and we went with a question in it from CaneGang 88 today. First let’s refresh you with Gary’s take: “I think so on Lowe but let’s see what he looks like at the start of camp and circle back on that. Not sure on Wiley. I didn’t feel he was there yet during spring. But he could take step forward in camp also. Yes on Thornton. I’ve loved everything I’ve seen.” I’ll add my take here. Lowe was one of the best-looking young defensive linemen I’ve laid eyes on when he was here last fall. He was literally throwing offensive linemen around like he was playing with balloons. But that injury that cost him last year really threw him for a loop. If he has his head on straight then he could be a bigtime piece of this year’s D line rotation. If not he may not last long in Cristobal land. As for Wiley, he just didn’t stand out in the spring and really the only reason he might be a standout is because of the lack of depth at the position. He has to make some big strides this fall for the good of this defense. And yes, Thornton has looked great. I had coverage concerns after he was beaten a lot last year at BC, but watching him this spring I think it was more their system putting him in bad situations than his own skill level.
