Prompted by losing a few major characters, including Mark Harmon's Leroy Jethro Gibbs, NCIS season 24 could be the end of this difficult period. Despite the summer off-season, NCIS didn't have any shortage of exciting updates to keep the public engaged. CBS's Super Tuesday, in general, is looking at a couple of changes, including the upcoming debut of NCIS: New York and NCIS: Origins move to a later timeslot. That said, the flagship has arguably the most interesting narrative in the works, set up by the nerve-wracking NCIS season 23 finale and the confirmation that Michael Weatherly is coming back as Tony Dinozzo Jr. CBS has officially debuted the first full trailer for NCIS season 24, and it offers the first proper look at Dinozzo stepping back into the iconic orange bullpen. Beyond his appearance, however, Jimmy Palmer declares that it's a new era in the Navy Yard, and he isn't wrong, considering everything that has happened in the last year. Watch it below: As previously confirmed, Dinozzo's return to MCRT has something to do with the agency's security breach. Since he's in Washington DC to set up a branch of his security firm in Paris, as seen in NCIS: Tony & Ziva, he gets involved in whatever is happening in his old workplace. For the most part, it does seem like everyone is thrilled for him to return — even Nick Torres, who was effectively his replacement, as they reminisce on Dinozzo's previous bullying of Timothy McGee. Interestingly, the trailer is very lighthearted, considering everything that went down in NCIS season 24. Granted that that are some tense moments, including Nick getting into a brawl and the team investigating gory cases, but almost everything is intercut with a quip, which is in line with Dinozzo's sarcastic and cheery personality. It's safe to say, however, that the CBS procedural will have some dark moments ahead of it, as the team continues to grieve the death of Vance and the complications from Matteo's actions in the season 23 finale. With Dinozzo back, there's interest in seeing if there are other legacy characters who will resurface this year. Previously, Emily Wickersham's Ellie Bishop returned for a small arc, as did Gibbs, as Alden Parker navigated the matter with Wayne Rogers, although Harmon was not seen on-screen. Moving forward, it would be great for NCIS to continue to lean on its long history, as it finally finishes this rebranding period.
