Italy suspends Schengen border rule after Ceuta migrant crisis — what it means

While the system normally guarantees passport-free movement, member states are allowed to temporarily reintroduce border controls if they believe there is a serious threat to public order or national security.Under Italy's temporary suspension, border police will carry out "targeted, selective checks" on travellers from Spain who are nationals of countries outside the European Union to verify that they have the required documents to travel within the EU.
