ALEXIS MAC ALLISTER has revealed Liverpool’s decision not to offer him a new contract makes him sad, despite having options to leave Anfield this summer. The Argentina midfielder, 27, has entered the final two years of his current Liverpool deal. That came despite the club spending heavily in the transfer market and handing fellow midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai a new five-year deal. Mac Allister was also the subject of interest from other clubs during the window, including Champions League opponents Atletico Madrid. And he admits there was a possibility he could have left Anfield. He said: “There was a chance. “I received the news that the club was not in a position to offer me a new contract, which of course makes me very, very sad. “I think I give 100 per cent for this football club every single day in training, games. Most read in Sport SUN VEGAS WELCOME OFFER: GET UP TO £100 BONUS “Of course I can have very good games, bad games, like everyone, but I always give my best. “I see Dominik and Ryan renewing their contracts and that makes me very happy because they deserve it but at the same time it makes me a little bit sad I didn’t get mine. “Of course, there is still time, the fans don’t need to worry because I will give 100 per cent until the last day I am here. “We will see what happens. “There were options to leave this summer but I think right now I am in the right club and I have the right mindset to give my 100 per cent to the club.” Mac Allister says Liverpool did not give him a direct explanation over why there was no new deal. Instead, the decision was communicated to his agent. He added: “There wasn’t any direct conversation with me, it was with my agent and I don’t want to say things that they never said but what I got from my agent was that they were not in the position to renew me. Mac Allister believes his performances over the next couple of years could ultimately determine whether Liverpool change their stance. He said: “Maybe, it is going to depend on how I perform during these years, like every football player, and they are right to make the decision. “The fans don’t need to worry as I will give 100 per cent and maybe they change their minds.” Despite his disappointment, Mac Allister insists his priority remains Liverpool and says he has never taken his position at the club for granted. He added: “Because this is the right club. “I love being here, this is something special. “I love this club, love being here and love the fans and as a player it sometimes happens you are at a club for a long time and don’t realise where you are, but that doesn’t happen to me, I love being here.” Comment now
