ANDY Burnham has temporarily banned disposable barbeques in the wake of wildfires ripping through the UK. The ban is coming into force because the single use BBQs “have been the cause of a number of serious wildfires across the country over the summer months”. Retailers and distributors have been warned against selling the products, with potential “criminal sanctions” for those who don’t comply. A government statement added: “Disposable barbecues cannot be considered a safe product in the context of the ongoing weather and environmental conditions and must not be made available for sale either in store or online at the current time.” Sign up for The Sun newsletter Thank you! The PM warned the public not to light an open fire of “any kind” and to dispose of cigarettes carefully. “We ask retailers to implement the ban in full until further notice,” Burnham added. He said that fire and rescue services will be given more cash to help with their jobs. It comes as at least 12 wildfires are burning across the UK.
