Iraqi Counter Terrorism Service forces Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – A security source told Shafaq News that Iraqi Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ali al-Zaidi appointed on Tuesday Falah Shaghati as acting head of the Intelligence Agency of the Iraqi Interior Ministry, known as the Federal Intelligence and Investigations Agency (FIIA). Shaghati served previously as the assistant interior minister for intelligence under former Interior Minister Abdul Amir al-Shammari. The FIIA is responsible for combating terrorism, organized criminal activities, and corruption. As part of the Iraqi Ministry of Interior, the agency focuses on preventive security operations, identifying and eliminating criminal networks, and executing anti-corruption campaigns across the country. Iraq’s FIIA operates with the country’s independent civilian intelligence agency, the Iraqi National Intelligence Service (INIS). Shaghati’s appointment comes after a series of cabinet-level reshuffles related to Operation Dawn, a large-scale national anti-corruption campaign aimed at illegal asset seizures and public fund embezzlement within government agencies.
