The agreements were finalized during an official visit by Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi, who met with Jordanian Prime Minister Jafar Hassan and King Abdullah II to enhance bilateral ties and economic integration. The agreements span economic, diplomatic, educational, and cultural sectors, according to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). The agreements include managing competition policies and preventing market monopolies, protecting the ecosystem and biodiversity, a five-year plan to expand university research cooperation and academic partnerships, and mechanisms to safeguard consumer rights and trade standards, as well as collaboration on historical preservation, manuscripts, and national archives. They also cover a partnership between Iraq’s Foreign Service Institute and Jordan’s Diplomatic Institute, support for small and medium-sized enterprises, an executive program for bilateral cultural exchange, and a multi-year framework establishing core educational sector cooperation. Al-Zaidi formally proposed establishing a joint free zone to boost commercial volume and position Iraq as a regional economic hub. The Iraqi prime minister’s trip to Jordan comes ahead of planned visits to Lebanon and Syria.
