Iraq exports fuel oil through Jordan

Photo: SANA Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The spokesperson for the Iraqi Oil Ministry, Salim al-Rikabi, told Attaqa News that Iraq began exporting fuel oil shipments via Jordan for the first time last month. Al-Rikabi explained that Iraq is exporting fuel oil through the neighboring country, not to Jordan. The Iraqi official did not disclose the details of the agreement, its duration, or when it came into effect. Iraqi oil shipments started flowing to Jordan in early August through the Trebil border crossing, the only land border crossing between the two countries, at a rate of 10,000 barrels per day, which were stored in the facilities of the Jordan Oil Terminals Company (JOTC), Jordan’s state-owned petroleum logistics and independent storage provider. Through Jordan, a shipment totaling 307,000 barrels was exported to Greece. Following the Strait of Hormuz crisis, which began with the United States’ war against Iran on February 28, Iraqi fuel oil shipments began transiting through Syria via tanker trucks, with storage at the Baniyas refinery before shipping to worldwide markets. Between March and the end of August, Iraq exported 21.4 million barrels of fuel oil through Syria and only 307,000 barrels through Jordan. Iraqi fuel oil exports started to increase following the Middle East conflict until the end of August in an attempt to compensate for the declining supplies via the Strait of Hormuz.
