Washington must clarify its position before talks on a possible agreement can advance, Iran’s security chief Mohsen Rezaei says. “The Americans have now responded to us. In their response, they have accepted some of our conditions, while others remain unclear,” the Supreme National Security Council secretary told the semi-official Tasnim news agency. Rezaei described the US response as “inadequate”. “We are no longer in the process of responding to the Americans,” he said. “They must clarify the issues that remain unclear to us,” he added. The exchange follows President Donald Trump’s rejection late last month of an Iranian proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days. US Vice President JD Vance subsequently demanded a “meaningful” reduction in Iran’s uranium enrichment capacity as a condition for an agreement.
