A school in Iran's Minab is being turned into a memorial after a strike killed more than 100 students. The preserved ruins and nearby graves have become enduring symbols of civilian loss and unanswered accountability.Stock photo used for illustrationA school in Iran's Minab that was hit in the early hours of the war launched by the United States and Israel across Iran on February 28 is being turned into a memorial for the children killed in the strike. The bright blue gate still carries symbols that once welcomed students, but the path inside now leads visitors past photographs of children in everyday moments and then images of mourning.Iranian officials said more than 100 students were killed when strikes hit the Shajareh Tayyebeh school. Months later, the Trump administration has still not directly accepted responsibility for the strike or released the Pentagon's findings, even as an Associated Press investigation found evidence that at least one US missile hit the school. The two-storey building remains badly damaged, with classrooms left as they were, desks half buried and ceilings collapsed. There have been calls to preserve the ruins as a historical record, and Hormozgan Governor Mohammad Ashouri Taziani has said the building would be turned into a war museum and memorial.Minab drew attention again in the past week after a fresh round of US strikes along Iran's southern coast hit a wedding and other areas, with some of the injured taken to a hospital in the town. Nearby, part of Minab's cemetery has been set aside for those killed in the school attack. Families and others walk quietly among the graves marked on artificial grass. Residents said three bodies have still not been found. The school, once marked by images of Iran's map, oversized pencils and portraits of figures from science and literature, now stands as a site of remembrance for children killed in the strike, with the cemetery nearby reflecting the scale of the loss.
