Iranian human rights official says legal efforts under way over Minab attack

Iran is pursuing national and international legal avenues to seek justice for victims of the February attack on the Shajareh Tayyebeh school in Minab, Deputy Minister for Human Rights Askar Jalalian said, according to the state news agency IRNA. Jalalian said the country had mobilised its national resources for judicial proceedings and is working to raise international awareness of the attack and preserve it in Iran's national history. The announcement follows a UN-mandated fact-finding mission's conclusion last month that the US may have committed war crimes in strikes on the school in Minab and a sports complex in Lamerd on 28 February. Local authorities reported a death toll of 156 in Minab, while independent sources, citing the UN, reported a total of 157 deaths.
