Iran urges regional nations to build 'homegrown' security architecture

Iran’s parliament speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, has said that China’s emphasis on fostering common security “reflected a principle long championed” by Iran, urging regional nations to build a "homegrown" security architecture. In a post on X, Ghalibaf said: “Regional countries must be taking their future into their own hands, and true stability can only come through a new security architecture that is homegrown. Iran stands ready.” Chinese President Xi Jinping used a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, this week to call on the bloc to "foster an environment of universal security" and push back against what he termed "hegemony, unilateralism, and protectionism." Iranian president Masoud Pezeshkian represented Iran at the two-day summit, marking the SCO's 25th anniversary.
