Iran says Qatar conveyed its terms for ending U.S. war to Washington

Qatar is at the centre of a renewed diplomatic push between Tehran and Washington, delivering Iran’s conditions for ending the war at a moment when Iranian officials are signalling openness to negotiations, while at the same time warning they are ready for another round of war.Iran’s conditions for re-engaging in talks to end the war have already been relayed to Washington via Qatar, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei said, with Tehran now awaiting a response from U.S. President Donald Trump. Rezaei added that consultations with Doha remain active, in comments made to Al Jazeera on September 19.Rezaei said those conditions include the release of frozen Iranian assets, lifting the U.S. naval blockade, an end to attacks on Iranian territory, refraining from interference in Iran’s internal affairs and bringing the war to an end across all fronts, including Lebanon.Rezaei later reinforced the message in a post on X, saying Iran had presented Washington with seven conditions for entering any negotiations. He also added that Iran continues to honour the religious decree ”Fatwa” prohibiting nuclear weapons and that its nuclear doctrine has not changed.Rezaei also addressed the war in Yemen, denying direct Iranian involvement and saying Tehran would be prepared to mediate, while saying that decisions surrounding the Bab al-Mandeb Strait as a Yemeni matter rather than one controlled by Iran.Qatar and Pakistan have been working to restore negotiations since the previous U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding expired in August. Doha has remained involved in the latest exchanges between Tehran and Washington, with Iran now awaiting a U.S. response to the conditions sent through Qatar.
