Iran dismisses IAEA resolution, says nonproliferation accusations political

Iran has dismissed a resolution passed by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which accuses Tehran of failing to comply with its nuclear nonproliferation commitments and refers the matter to the UN Security Council. “Renewed accusations against Iran’s peaceful nuclear program are political and not technical in nature,” Iran's UN ambassador, Gholamhossein Darzi, said in a letter addressed to the Security Council president, IRNA reported. “The Islamic Republic of Iran categorically rejects the baseless accusations and distortions raised by some members in this meeting regarding Iran’s peaceful nuclear program,” Darzi said. The IAEA resolution, which is backed by the US and its key European allies, expressed “grave concern” over Iran’s “continued noncompliance” with its obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.
