Iran’s foreign ministry has condemned Israel’s recent attacks on southern Lebanon which killed 11 people, including children, according to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency. Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said Iran “regrets” the international community’s “continued silence and inaction of the United Nations Security Council in the face of blatant violations of international law and international human rights law”. Saturday's air strikes mark the worst attacks since Israel and Lebanon signed a framework agreement to stop fighting in June. Baghaei added that Iran stands in solidarity with Lebanon, “in its efforts to defend the country’s national sovereignty, independence, and dignity.” First aid responders and residents gather as they search the site of an Israeli airstrike that targeted a neighbourhood in the southern Lebanese village of Deir al-Zahrani on 15 August 2026 (AFP)
