A Delhi man was rescued after jumping into the Yamuna at Kalindi Kunj Ghat on Friday evening. Police said financial stress over unpaid iPhone instalments had left him distressed.He said his earnings had declined in recent months, leaving him under financial pressure.A 30-year-old man allegedly jumped into the Yamuna at Kalindi Kunj Ghat in Delhi in an attempted suicide on Friday evening, after he was unable to pay the monthly instalments for an iPhone he had purchased, police said. He was rescued safely after police personnel and flood control department workers launched a prompt operation.The man, a resident of Sanjay Colony in Delhi, was spotted jumping into the river by people present at the ghat. They alerted police personnel deployed in the area, following which officers from Kalindi Kunj police station immediately launched a rescue operation with the help of flood control department staff and a boat.The man was pulled out of the river safely and subsequently questioned about the incident.MAN UNDER FINANCIAL STRESSDuring questioning, the man told police that he worked as a dance teacher and also took up gardening-related work to supplement his income. He said his earnings had declined in recent months, leaving him under financial pressure. According to police, the man had purchased an iPhone and was struggling to pay its monthly instalments. His instalment payment had reportedly bounced, adding to his financial stress.Police said the financial difficulties and pressure over the unpaid instalment had left him distressed. He subsequently went to the Yamuna and jumped into the river, allegedly intending to end his life. After rescuing him, police counselled the man and contacted his family.
