Apple has unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, bringing major upgrades to the cameras, processor, battery system, and display experience. The new Pro models also introduce a redesigned thermal architecture aimed at keeping their performance high during demanding workloads. Apple says the chip delivers 50% more memory bandwidth than A19 Pro. The seven-core GPU can reach 40% higher performance than its predecessor. A new Dual 16-core Neural Engine also doubles the chip’s AI processing capacity. That performance creates another engineering challenge: heat. Apple has redesigned the thermal system to help A20 Pro sustain higher workloads for longer. The new vapor chamber has three times the surface area of the previous generation. Custom chip packaging also places the silicon beside the memory. That configuration allows A20 Pro to connect directly to the vapor chamber. Apple says the redesign enables up to 40% higher sustained performance compared with the iPhone 17 Pro. Bigger battery Apple has paired the performance upgrades with new battery designs. The eSIM-only iPhone 18 Pro can provide up to 36 hours of video playback. The Pro Max pushes that figure to 45 hours. Apple also says five minutes of wired charging can provide roughly seven hours of video playback on the larger model. Both phones ship with iOS 27 and the next generation of Apple Intelligence. Siri AI arrives in beta, adding personal-context awareness and onscreen actions. The new software can work across messages, emails, and photos to help users find information. Apple also uses on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute for its intelligence features. The iPhone 18 Pro lineup therefore combines a faster processor with a larger thermal system and expanded camera controls.
