iOS 27 will bring five new features not yet announced, per rumors

iOS 27 is currently in beta, and launches to all users this fall. Here are five new features rumored for iOS 27 that haven’t yet appeared in the beta. What’s still coming in iOS 27? Mark Gurman at Bloomberg had months of accurate leaks about iOS 27 before the software update was announced. And scanning through his final pre-WWDC report reveals just how much of the software he was able to detail ahead of time. But there are a handful of features Gurman reported on that haven’t yet arrived in the iOS 27 beta. These features might still be added to iOS 27.0 later on, or they could appear in a future update like iOS 27.1. Here are some unannounced new features coming to iOS 27, per Gurman: More third-party chatbots integrated with Siri Gurman writes: Apple is also planning to open up Siri to outside chatbots beyond OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which is already integrated into the software. In the Search or Ask view, users will be able to toggle between chatbots. Apple has tested this new approach with Claude and Gemini, in addition to ChatGPT. The interface for toggling between AI sources is present in iOS 27 right now. But currently ChatGPT is the only other option besides Siri. Health app upgrades Gurman writes: The Apple Health app is getting a range of new AI features that were originally planned for a comprehensive health coach service internally dubbed “Mulberry” that was scaled back. The upgrade, which includes improved blood sugar-related tracking and the ability to use a device camera to monitor a person’s workout, is not expected to arrive in the initial release of iOS 27. Apple may also announce these at a later date than WWDC. As Gurman said, these updates are expected to arrive in a future update to iOS 27 and were not included in the WWDC announcements. Third-party AI sources for image and text generation Gurman writes: The company is planning to open up AI features like image and text generation — such as the ones inside Image Playground and Writing Tools — to third-party agent providers. Those features currently can tap into ChatGPT. With the change, third-party alternatives will be installable via their App Store apps. Apple has tested Claude and Gemini for this. Similar to the lack of new AI options in the Siri interface, iOS 27 doesn’t currently offer options like Claude or Gemini for powering image and text generation. It’s likely that these features will arrive at the same time as Siri gains support for third-party assistants. Customizable Camera app interface Gurman writes: Apple is planning to make the iOS 27 Camera app interface fully customizable so users can pick their own set of controls — called widgets — that run along the top of the interface. The Camera app did gain a new Siri mode in iOS 27, but currently the app isn’t customizable the way Gurman reported. It’s possible we’ll see customization features debut alongside the iPhone 18 Pro introduction. Side-by-side app multitasking for iPhone Ultra Gurman has also said that iOS 27 will bring new capabilities designed for the upcoming foldable, which is rumored to be called iPhone Ultra. Many Apple apps now support landscape mode in iOS 27, clearly in anticipation of the widescreen foldable.
