Internet tears into Yash over 'overlook VFX flaws in Ramayana' remark

Yash wants audiences to give Ramayana an open-minded watch, including when it comes to the film’s visual effects. The actor-producer’s appeal at a promotional event in Hyderabad, however, has landed him in a social media storm, with viewers asking why they should overlook flaws in a film they’re paying to watch.Yash, who plays Ravana in Nitesh Tiwari’s two-part epic, urged audiences not to nitpick the VFX, arguing that the project represents a rare opportunity to take Indian cinema to a global stage. The internet, as it tends to do, had a few notes of its own.Speaking at the event, Yash praised producer Namit Malhotra for putting his reputation and money on the line to bring the ambitious project to life."Sometimes, when someone tries to do things like this. He has gambled his reputation and money to put this film on a global platform. Please don’t try to find small faults in the VFX. It will never happen again if we lose people like him (Namit) now. It will take more years. We will go back in time," he said. He added, "Let’s see the film with an open mind. He has always taken every piece of feedback and criticism and tried to do it better. I request you from my side. If you like the film, let’s come together and show the world."Watch the clip here: "Please don't try to find small faults; VFX, this-that. This chance won't come again. For years. If we lose people like him now, we'll go back. I request all the fans. Telugu industry, Kannada industry, Malayalam industry, Tamil industry, and Hindi industry: For once, if you like the film, LET'S COME TOGETHER AND SHOW THE WORLD" - Yash about #Ramayana and @malhotra_namit https://t.co/etCCsCtoTu— Vajra (@vajraTheAstra) October 19, 2026The request didn't exactly win everyone over. Several social media users argued that audiences shouldn't have to lower their expectations, particularly when they're paying for a big-screen spectacle."Come on, man! Indian audiences are already consuming world-class cinema and series on OTT platforms. It's time to raise the bar," one user wrote, pointing out that viewers have plenty of international content to compare with.Another took the butter chicken route to make their point: "This is butter chicken, please don't find small faults, like there is no butter in butter chicken, eat with an open mind." Then came the question many seemed to be asking, "Why should a person who pays 500 bucks to watch a movie not criticise?? Are you giving away tickets for free??"Others felt that taking Indian cinema to the world was the responsibility of the filmmakers, not the audience. One user argued that the appeal showed "less confidence on the content they are creating," while another suggested the team should focus on the film rather than invoke patriotism to sell it.Read some reactions here:Yash says India needs to 'protect' Namit MalhotraYash's comments came as he spoke passionately about Malhotra's ambitions. The producer had previously said the two films were being made on a budget of Rs 4,000 crore."Anybody can dream of making a movie, but only a few people will have that kind of passion, dedication, determination and madness. As an Indian, I am telling you, we need to protect this guy," Yash said, adding that Malhotra had been comfortably doing business in Los Angeles before taking on the project. He also recalled Malhotra's desire to help Indian cinema reach the level of global recognition he felt it deserved, saying the producer wasn't satisfied with receiving Oscars while Indian cinema itself still had further to go.Ramayana: Rise of a Legend will release in theatres on November 5.- Ends
