The Instituto Nacional do Seguro Social (INSS) recently organized a large-scale effort to process 59,000 pending medical examinations over the weekend, but this temporary fix barely scratches the surface of the backlog of around 2.8 million pending cases and 3,000 active federal medical experts. While the initiative aimed to address a critical issue, it risks creating more work in the future by not tackling the underlying problems. This situation highlights systemic inefficiencies that need long-term solutions rather than short-term fixes.
