Inspiral Carpets‘ tour bus was involved in a motorway crash that left two in hospital. The crash happened in Scotland during the early hours of Monday morning (August 24). It came after they played two gigs in the country as part of their ongoing UK tour, and were travelling back towards England. According to a statement issued on behalf of the band – currently comprised of Clint Boon, Stephen Holt, Martyn Walsh and Oscar Boon – the entire band, crew and bus driver escaped uninjured. Two people in the other vehicle suffered “minor injuries” and were taken to hospital, the spokesperson added. The statement read: “In the early hours of Monday 24th August, the tour bus carrying Inspiral Carpets was involved in a collision with another vehicle on the southbound carriageway of the M74 motorway in Scotland. Thankfully no one from either vehicle was seriously injured. “Two people travelling in the other vehicle received minor injuries and were taken to hospital. The band, crew and bus driver were all uninjured. As the matter is now in the hands of the police the band can give no further comment for the time being.” Back in May, the band returned with ‘Drag The Bag’, their first new single in 12 years. They’re currently still on tour, with shows running until September 25, when they will wrap up at Neuadd Ogwen, in Bethesda. You can purchase tickets here and see the remaining dates here. Elsewhere, the band were involved in the Manchester Merch Market in 2025, along with New Order, The Charlatans, and many more. The band previously went on an indefinite hiatus following the death of their drummer, Craig Gill in 2016. At the time the likes of Liam Gallagher, Stephen Holt and the city of Manchester paid tribute to Gill over Twitter. Formed by Clint Boon, Gill joined Inspiral Carpets at the age of just 14 in 1986. He played with the band throughout their 90s heyday and remained when they reformed to tour and record their self-titled, last album in 2014. They reunited for a spring tour in 2023 and have continued to perform live ever since.
