It features the city's largest red-light district, dozens of bars, arcades, and clubs, the world's busiest railway station, and a giant statue of Godzilla bearing down on you as you enter. It's featured in many games, including Persona 5 and Ghostwire: Tokyo, and it serves as the core inspiration for the Yakuza series' Kamurocho. The latest game to set foot in Tokyo's neon-soaked district is Marvel's Wolverine, and its developers have promised that their interpretation of the city is "wonderful," with an ode to the infamous Godzilla statue and a distinct Marvel twist. Naturally, with a not-insignificant section of Wolverine being set here, Insomniac wanted to pay homage to the landmark. "I love the Tokyo area in this game. All the locations we have prepared, including Shinjuku, are wonderful," Wolverine executive producer Eric Monacelli told Japanese outlet 4Gamer. "We worked closely with our Sony partners and art directors who visited Tokyo during development to make Shinjuku look as authentic as possible. We also explored ways to interpret certain locations and iconic landmarks in a more Marvel-centric way so that they would fit within the Marvel Universe in Insomniac. It's highly unlikely that Insomniac would have gotten the rights to Godzilla from its license holder, Toho, so it will be interesting to see how the company spins it. Could we get the head of Spider-Rex, aka Pter Ptarker, overlooking the city, despite Insomniac saying there would be no crossover, or perhaps it might be Eddie Brockiosaurus, Vincent Stegron, or one of the Devil Beasts? It's fun to speculate, and with so many options to choose from, this could be one of the most fun Easter eggs in the game.
