A SNEAK peek has been given of the inside of an abandoned M&S that has been gathering dust for eight years after its closure. The Marks and Spencer in Basildon town centre has been boarded up for almost a decade following its closure in 2018. The Conservative Party member described the inside of the site as “very spooky”. In the minute and a half long clip he takes viewers across all three floors. While the building is completely empty, some flashes of M&S remain including its old “vintage” carpet. Viewers were quick to express their love for the former branch, with one sharing they “wished” it was still an M&S. Another local shared that they “loved” shopping at the branch back in the day. And a third said: “Aww I miss having an M&S and the crappy trips to Lakeside and Bluewater are lengthy.” Most read in Money Plans were previously floated to turn the building into an indoor market and hub, much like Boxpark, but these plans were later scrapped. Now, the council plans to refurbish it and lease it as a commercial space.
