The killer has spent more than 30 years behind bars after she was jailed for life in 1995 for murdering ten women and girls with husband Fred in Gloucester. A report reveals that staff treat prisoners in a “caring and supportive” way and inmates are offered audiobooks, gym facilities and board games to keep them entertained. Among the few complaints made by lags is that the food portions from the servery are sometimes “particularly small”. In his review of the jail, he wrote: “New Hall is a good prison that shows care and compassion in looking after the women it holds.” West is believed to be in the Rivendell unit, which is separate from the main jail. Each of the 30 cells in that house has an en-suite bathroom and any woman held there receives specialist support. A picture showing the unit’s gardens displays a patio with a path leading to an allotment with raised boxes. There are flowerbeds which border the carefully maintained lawns. The front of the jail is similarly green with a blossom tree and trimmed hedges leading up to the visitors’ entrance.
