AUDI has reinvented the A2 as a smart and efficient electric hatch. So smart, some people will probably want the camouflaged wrap on this prototype. Engineers found an extra 20-25 miles of range by using all sorts of aero tricks including active air intakes and underbody spoilers in front of the front wheels. Sign up for The Sun newsletter Thank you! I eased off the accelerator at 45-50mph expecting the car to slow and it just kept going and going – giving me free miles, essentially. That’s impressive. As is the damping and ride quality. The multi-link rear axle helps. As is the feeling of space in a whisper-quiet cabin. Pure Audi. Audi CEO Gernot Dollner is clearly delighted with the end result. He told me: “This car carries a strong name. The original was innovative and highly efficient and we have brought these genes to the A2 e-tron. “It’s really impressive what the engineers have achieved. The team has overdelivered on the targets we set them.” I’m happy to see the return of that wedge-shaped rear end.
