INL questions Kerala Chief Minister over PM SHRI scheme after Centre’s clarification

The Indian National League (INL) on Thursday (July 30, 2026) questioned Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan after Union Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary informed Parliament that the PM SHRI scheme had not been implemented in Kerala and that the State had only signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU).In a statement, INL State general secretary Kasim Irikkur said the Centre’s clarification contradicted the Chief Minister’s repeated assertion that the State was bound to go ahead with the scheme because the previous Left Democratic Front (LDF) government had signed the MoU.Mr. Irikkur said not a single government school in Kerala had been included under the PM SHRI scheme and that only the Samagra Shiksha Kerala (SSK) programme had been implemented, under which the State had received ₹99.27 crore. He claimed that during the LDF rule, Kerala, like Tamil Nadu, had taken a clear secular stand on the PM SHRI scheme and had signed only the MoU to ensure the release of SSK funds.The INL alleged that after the UDF government assumed office, the Chief Minister and General Education Minister N.
