‘Ink’ Helmer Danny Boyle To Receive Gotham Film Awards’ Director Tribute

EXCLUSIVE: Danny Boyle, whose latest film Ink opened last month’s Venice Film Festival, has been tapped to receive the Gotham Director Tribute at the 36th annual Gotham Film Awards in November. The honor recognizes recognizes filmmakers whose bodies of work have made significant contributions to contemporary cinema. It will celebrate Boyle’s four-decade career that includes winning the Best Director Oscar in 2009 for Slumdog Millionaire as well as Ink, his pic about the beginnings of tabloid journalism in the UK in 1969 when Rupert Murdoch launched The Sun. Jack O’Connell, Guy Pearce as Murdoch and Claire Foy star in Ink, from Netflix, which hits theaters December 11 ahead of a January 8, 2027 bow on the streamer. In 2012, he directed the London Olympics Opening Ceremony. “Across four decades, Danny Boyle has established himself as one of the true auteurs of his generation,” said Gotham Film & Media Institute executive director Jeffrey Sharp. “From the energy and urgency of Shallow Grave and Trainspotting to the achievements of Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours and Steve Jobs, he has consistently brought a singular voice and perspective to the screen. With Ink, Danny once again proves his ability to take a compelling story and make it feel wholly cinematic. We’re delighted to honor his remarkable career with the Gotham Director Tribute and to celebrate this exciting new chapter in his work.” The Gothams, among the first of the major awards shows during film kudos season, has set its 2026 ceremony for November 30 at Cipriani Wall Street. Nominees will be announced October 27. Earlier this week it began revealing its honorary tribute awards, with Laika tapped to receive the fest’s Anniversary Tribute.
