(Photo: siddharth bhimani./X)New Delhi,Oct 15, 2026 14:46 ISTGetting to the airport early may have its perks, as one IndiGo passenger discovered. With hours to spare before his scheduled flight from Indore to Mumbai, Siddharth Bhimani asked the airline if he could leave earlier. The answer was yes, for Rs 1,800.In a post on X, Siddharth shared how his original flight was scheduled to depart at 10:25 pm, but he reached the airport by 7 pm after wrapping up work early. Rather than wait for his scheduled departure, he approached the IndiGo counter to ask whether he could get on an earlier flight.“Did you know you can sometimes catch an earlier flight if you reach the airport early?” he wrote, describing how he requested a seat on the 8:40 pm flight to Mumbai.Siddharth credited the airline staff for helping him make the switch. He said the supervisor, Shreya Jain, and another staff member, Hritubala, were cooperative and confirmed that the change could be made for Rs 1,800. He paid the amount and received a newly issued boarding pass, which he shared alongside his post. “I happily paid, and now I’m heading home almost 2 hours earlier!” he wrote, thanking the staff for making the process hassle-free. He also offered a simple takeaway for fellow travellers: “Sometimes, asking nicely is all it takes!”See the post:The airline acknowledged Siddharth's post and thanked him for sharing his experience. IndiGo said it was glad its team had helped make his journey smoother and enabled him to reach home earlier. It also said it would pass on his appreciation to the staff members. The post prompted a discussion about whether passengers should have to pay extra to take an earlier flight when seats are available. Some users felt the gesture would have been more heartwarming if IndiGo had allowed Siddharth Bhimani to switch flights without charging him. Others appreciated the staff’s cooperation, arguing that the interaction was still a positive experience for a passenger who wanted to get home sooner. While the exchange highlighted the value of courteous customer service, it also raised a practical question for travellers: reaching the airport early and asking politely may be worth a try, but an earlier flight is not guaranteed to come without an additional charge.- Ends
