IndiGo hikes fuel surcharge on domestic, international flights as ATF rises

IndiGo has increased fuel surcharges on its domestic and international flights as Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices continue to rise. The airline said the latest month-on-month increase in ATF prices was more than 14%, taking fuel costs to among the highest levels seen in the last decade. The revised fuel charges will apply to all new bookings made after 12:01 am on October 6, 2026.INDIGO RAISES FUEL SURCHARGE ON DOMESTIC FLIGHTSFor domestic flights, IndiGo has revised the fuel surcharge based on the distance travelled. The charge will be Rs 900 for flights covering 1,000-1,500 km, Rs 1,150 for flights between 1,501 and 2,000 km, and Rs 1,300 for flights above 2,000 km.The airline said the move comes as the continued rise in fuel costs puts pressure on operating expenses. FUEL SURCHARGE ALSO HIKED ON INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTSIndiGo has also raised fuel surcharges on several international routes. For flights to SAARC nations, the charge will be Rs 1,000 for distances of up to 500 km and Rs 3,000 for distances above 500 km. The surcharge for South East Asia, GCC and Middle East, and North and East Asia will be Rs 5,500. For Africa, the revised fuel surcharge will be Rs 6,000, while the charge for Europe will remain unchanged at Rs 10,000.The surcharge for flights to the GCC and Middle East, South East Asia, and North and East Asia has increased by Rs 500. For Africa, it has gone up by Rs 1,000.WHY HAS INDIGO INCREASED THE FUEL SURCHARGE?IndiGo said the continuous rise in ATF costs has led it to re-calibrate fuel charges across its domestic and international routes.“ATF prices have remained volatile in recent months, especially following geopolitical issues in the Middle East,” the airline said. The latest month-on-month increase in fuel prices has exceeded 14%, taking ATF costs to levels that are among the highest in the last decade.IndiGo said fully offsetting the increase in fuel costs would have required a significantly higher fuel surcharge. Instead, it has made what it described as a measured and relatively modest adjustment to limit the impact on customers. The airline said it regrets the additional burden the revised charges may place on passengers and will continue to monitor the situation.IndiGo had introduced fuel surcharges on international routes in April after the West Asia war crisis led to a sharp rise in ATF prices. With fuel costs continuing to rise, the airline has now re-calibrated its fuel charges across both domestic and international flights. The revised charges will apply to all new bookings made on IndiGo flights from 12:01 am on October 6, 2026.- Ends
