IndieWire’s Future of Filmmaking Summit to Feature ‘Pitch Me’ Panel on Finding Breakout Hits with Top Execs and Agents

For as much change and turmoil as the film industry has endured in recent years, its core has not changed: it’s still a business driven by hits, and everyone is looking harder than ever for the next big breakout. The question on everyone’s mind is where you’re supposed to find them in 2026. Attendees at IndieWire’s Future of Filmmaking Summit in Los Angeles on October 17 will get an answer to that question when our Pitch Me panel convenes Hollywood decision makers to break down their process of vetting pitches. Panelists from the representation, production, and distribution sides of the equation will join IndieWire Editor-in-Chief Brent Lang for a conversation about the search for hits and what separates the truly special projects. Other programming includes A keynote presentation from Phil Lord and Chris Miller on making “Project Hail Mary,” A one-on-one conversation with Bill Hader about his upcoming feature directorial debut “They Know,” An appearance from “Obsession” writer/director Curry Barker, who will accept IndieWire’s inaugural Future of Filmmaking Award. A microdrama panel with executives from Issa Rae’s Hoorae Media More panels will be announced over the next week.
