EXCLUSIVE: Archetype Media Finance, a new LA-based film financing venture, is launching with a focus on projects budgeted between $5M and $25M. The venture is spearheaded by Matthew Shreder, founder and CEO of film sales company Concourse Media, producer Tyler Condon (Chief of Station), and former Tubi and Legendary exec Tim Hebard. According to the founders, the fund has secured $150M in capital commitments to deploy over the next five years. First projects backed include Nicolas Cage-led $20M post-apocalyptic thriller Parish, which recently wrapped production in Minnesota with Dane DeHaan and Alexandra Shipp also in the cast, the Lucy Hale romantic comedy Vision Board, set to begin shooting in New York in January, and Casey Affleck-Sam Rockwell feature The Smack. The investment strategy spans senior secured debt, gap financing and equity investments, with plans to invest in up to 30 features. Archetype’s capital structure combines private equity investment, family office backing, and a credit facility. Watch on Deadline The founders say Archetype will take an active role in evaluating projects, structuring transactions and managing investments throughout the life cycle of each film. Archetype will maintain a strategic relationship with Shreder’s Concourse Media, but founders say the venture will operate independently and finance projects from producers, production companies and sales agencies throughout the industry, rather than exclusively backing Concourse titles. “Independent film financing has become increasingly fragmented, with producers often forced to assemble capital from multiple sources just to get a project off the ground,” said the partners in a joint statement. “We created Archetype to bring those financing solutions together under one roof, combining the flexibility of an independent financier with the financial discipline of an institutional investment platform. We see an enormous opportunity to support commercially viable films, build a diversified portfolio and become a dependable capital partner for producers across the industry.”
