PlayStation Terminates Developer Agreement With Indie Dev "Without Giving Any Reason", Delists Their Entire Catalog Published Aug 17, 2026, 5:16 AM EDT Sam Woods is TheGamer’s Senior Reporter. He’s been in games journalism since 2020 and has undertaken a variety of roles in that time. These have included roles such as SEO Editor, Managing Editor at DualShockers, and Global Head of Gaming, and he's also been seen on the BBC. He was promoted to the Senior Reporter position in 2025 following a series of high-quality reports and exclusives for TheGamer. Since 2020, Sam has written over 2,500 articles and specializes in telling the stories of the people behind the games. He’s interviewed the biggest game directors, some of the industry’s top talents, told the stories of how indie games came to be, and spoken to players about what really makes them tick. He’s also interviewed some of the world’s biggest musical artists to find out how the medium has inspired their work, and TV and Film actors about their roles in video game adaptations. He even hosted a PAX panel in 2021 and made a documentary in 2024 surrounding the creation of a Disney game. Alongside this, Sam focuses on breaking news. He got the scoop on Perfect Dark’s cancellation, got context around some AI drama, and revealed how Lady Dimitrescu’s actress would love to step back into the character’s giant shoes. These articles have been picked up by the biggest gaming sites, including IGN, GameSpot, and PC Gamer. He also loves to dive into the numbers behind the games. Sam’s journey in games journalism has taken him all over the world. He’s covered Gamescom in Germany, Summer Game Fest in Los Angeles, and Tokyo Game Show in Japan, each on more than one occasion. He’s been learning Japanese since 2024 with the intention of identifying and translating Japanese-language news and bringing it to English-language audiences first, something he’s done countless times. Sam’s first review was 2020’s Battletoads reboot, and he’s since reviewed games in The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario, and Pokemon franchises. PlayStation can't seem to escape the game preservation debate. Its decision to ditch physical media starting in 2028 caused a stink, with former PlayStation executives and big-time video game developers among those who opposed the move. The latest example of this comes courtesy of indie studio Ternox Games, which has just revealed, "Sony PlayStation unilaterally terminated my PlayStation developer and publisher agreement without giving me any reason." This will result in all the studio's games being removed from the platform within a week. Ternox Games Will No Longer Have Any Titles On PlayStation And Isn't Sure Why Stonks-9800 has been available on Steam in early access for over three years now. It has an overwhelmingly positive rating based on almost 1,400 reviews. This was enough for its developer, Ternox, to begin the process of porting the game to the Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PlayStation. It now looks like, unless something drastically changes, that won't be happening. "STONKS-9800 will not be coming to PS5," the Ukrainian developer posted on social media. "Sony PlayStation unilaterally terminated my PlayStation developer and publisher agreement without giving me any reason. My existing games are scheduled to be removed from the PlayStation Store after August 23." They claim that "PlayStation Support refuses to listen to my arguments or even respond to my emails in any way." They had hoped to release Stonks-9800 by 2027, so they could release a physical version of the game and avoid Sony's massively unpopular decision. In the last five years, Ternox has published 10 games on PlayStation, with a further three transferred to the studio, for a total of 13 games. Each of these will be removed on August 23. The creator published a list for players, letting them know they can still purchase them before they are delisted. They are as follows: Nexoria: Dungeon Rogue Heroes Finger Fitness Retro Highway Unichrome: A 1-Bit Unicorn Adventure O-VOID: Console Edition Run & Jump Guy Scrap Divers Fox’s Zen House Boned Again: Survivors Dungeonloop IN-VERT Taimumari: Complete Edition Bullet Beat Ternox has revealed that it still plans to release Stonks-9800 on the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation. It sets a dangerous precident, and one we've seen many times before, most recently when PlayStation removed 511 movies from owners' accounts. It's another move that's likely to upset consumers who have shown their distaste for Sony's decisions by organizing boycotts, launching petitions, and filing class-action lawsuits. Even some world governments are proposing new bills to protect consumers, and the infamous hacking group Anonymous had its say on matters. TheGamer has reached out to Ternox and PlayStation for comment.
