While the train’s clean energy technology is the biggest highlight, its affordable ticket price is also drawing attention.The fares start at just Rs 5 and go up to Rs 25. The hydrogen train could offer commuters a low-cost travel option. The starting fare is even lower than the platform ticket charges at many railway stations.The 10-coach train will run between Jind and Sonipat, covering around 90 kilometres in nearly two hours.The train will have 11 halts on the route and can carry around 2,600 passengers daily. It has been developed using indigenous hydrogen fuel cell technology and will run without traditional overhead electric wires. A GREEN TRAIN THAT LEAVES BEHIND ONLY WATERUnlike diesel trains that release carbon emissions, this hydrogen-powered train produces only water vapour as a by-product, making it a zero-emission mode of transport.The green hydrogen required to operate the train will be supplied from a dedicated plant set up in Jind. The project also includes advanced safety features to ensure secure operations. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini has described the project as a historic step towards clean energy, Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat, saying it will improve connectivity and support economic growth in the region.FROM GERMANY TO HARYANA: INDIA JOINS HYDROGEN CLUBHydrogen trains are already being used or tested in countries including Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Italy and the United States. With this launch, India will become one of the few countries to operate hydrogen-powered rail technology.The train is being seen as a major step in India’s push towards cleaner transportation and reduced dependence on conventional fuels.PM MODI’S BIG RAILWAY AND HEALTHCARE PUSHDuring the same visit, PM Modi will inaugurate the redeveloped Jalandhar Cantonment Railway Station in Punjab under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
