Pixxel has raised $100 million in a Series C round to expand beyond hyperspectral Earth observation. The funding will support new sensing technologies, software and sovereign space systems as the startup broadens its planetary infrastructure ambitions.Fireflies on Earth before they embark on their journey to orbit. (Photo: Pixxel)Indian space technology startup Pixxel has raised $100 million in Series C funding, marking a major boost for the company as it looks to expand beyond hyperspectral Earth observation into new sensing technologies, advanced software and sovereign space systems. The funding round was led by Temasek and Seraphim Space, with existing investors increasing their commitments. New investors, including 360 ONE Asset and IMM Invest, also participated in the round, Pixxel said. The Bengaluru-based company said the fresh capital would accelerate its plans to build what it describes as “planetary infrastructure” — a network of space-based technologies and intelligence systems designed to provide a deeper understanding of Earth.Pixxel was founded seven years ago by Awais Ahmed and Kshitij Khandelwal when they were still students. The company began with the ambitious idea of creating what Ahmed described as a “health monitor for the entire planet” through a fleet of hyperspectral satellites. Hyperspectral satellites capture information across hundreds of narrow spectral bands, allowing scientists and governments to detect changes and characteristics on Earth that may not be visible through conventional satellite imagery.Over the past few years, Pixxel has emerged as one of India's prominent private space companies, launching what it says are the world's highest-resolution commercial hyperspectral satellites. The company has also worked with organisations including NASA, the US National Reconnaissance Office and the Indian Air Force, while securing contracts related to sovereign space systems.Ahmed said the latest funding would allow Pixxel to “move faster and aim higher,” but added that the capital was only the beginning of the company's next phase of growth.Pixxel now plans to expand into new sensing technologies, more powerful Earth intelligence software and sovereign space infrastructure. The startup's vision is increasingly focused on combining persistent sensing from multiple satellite constellations with software capable of converting vast amounts of Earth observation data into actionable intelligence.“The coming decades will make understanding the physical world a strategic necessity,” Ahmed said, pointing to challenges involving climate, resources, food, energy, infrastructure and national security. The fresh funding comes as India's private space sector continues to grow following reforms that opened more opportunities for startups and industry participation. For Pixxel, however, the new investment signals ambitions extending well beyond operating a hyperspectral satellite constellation. The company now wants to build a broader space-based infrastructure capable of helping governments, businesses and institutions continuously monitor the planet and make decisions based on what satellites can see. With $100 million in fresh capital, Pixxel's next challenge will be translating that vision into a larger constellation of technologies — and expanding India's footprint in the rapidly growing global space economy.- EndsPublished By: Sibu Kumar TripathiPublished On: Sep 7, 2026 11:07 IST
