Indian scientists make Lord Ganesha idol with snow in Antarctica, post visarjan video

Indian scientists at Antarctica's Maitri Station made a Lord Ganesha idol from snow and held Ganesh Chaturthi rituals. The celebration video received praise for keeping the festival alive far from home.Indian scientists make Lord Ganesha idol with snow in Antarctica (Photos: @anirudhdhar/Instagram)A group of scientists in Antarctica found a special way to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi, by making their very own Lord Ganesha idol out of snow and carrying out the festivities thousands of kilometres away from home.Instagram user Anirudh Dhar, who works at the National Centre for Polar and Ocean Research (NCPOR) in Goa, shared a video capturing the celebration at Maitri Station in Antarctica. Despite being surrounded by snow and harsh conditions, the scientists managed to bring a little bit of home to the polar station.The video opened with visuals of Maitri Station before showing the scientists getting creative with the snow around them. They made a handmade idol of Lord Ganesha from snow and carefully decorated it with a garland and small flowers.The group then gathered for the traditional rituals, performing the pooja inside the station before carrying out the visarjan as well. They could be heard chanting “Ganpati Bappa Morya” loudly as they prayed, clapped and celebrated together. Towards the end, the scientists sat down to enjoy handmade modaks, adding a familiar festive touch to the celebration.Sharing the video, Anirudh described the celebration as taking “eco-friendly immersion” to a whole new extreme, 15,000 km away from home, calling their handmade snow Bappa “about as sustainable as it can get.” Watch the video here:The unusual celebration also received plenty of affection from viewers.
