Inbetweeners’ James Buckley reveals he’s been diagnosed with genetic disease forcing him to QUIT booze

INBETWEENERS star James Buckley revealed he has been diagnosed with a genetic disease – which has in turn forced him to quit drinking. The actor, 38, played cocky Jay Cartwright in the Channel 4 sitcom and its subsequent films. This is due to him having high Lipoprotein(a), a genetically inherited type of blood cholesterol. Sign up for the TV newsletter Thank you! This means James has had to give up drinking and cut down on takeaways. James explained he had a health check after wife Clair was rushed to hospital in an ambulance, having suffered severe dehydration. He said in the podcast: ‘I’ve also had health problems as well. It’s something to do with my Lipoprotein(a), something to do with that. ‘There’s nothing you can do about it, by the way. And the doctor’s just been like, “you need to change”.’ As well as giving up drinking for the time being, James also had to restructure his diet. My heart, my arteries. “I’m not a religious man, but sometimes I feel like there is a God that sort of goes “that’ll teach you”. ‘I feel like I’ve been on this podcast slagging people off that don’t drink. “Yeah, we have boring stuff. And now I’ve been told to try not [laughter]… rein it in. “But I’m going to have a beer soon.” It comes as Netflix signed up James and his Inbetweeners castmates – Simon Bird, Joe Thomas and Blake Harrison to reprise their roles. They will return as the hapless schoolmates for a movie – while the streaming giant also hopes to secure Emily Atack back as Charlotte Hinchcliffe. Comment now
