Implementing AI technologies in auditing operations discussed

Cairo: The Sultanate of Oman, represented by the State Financial and Administrative Audit Authority, participated in the global symposium titled "Economic Artificial Intelligence: New Horizons for Supreme Audit Institutions."The event was hosted by the Central Auditing Organisation, in its capacity as the Chair of the International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI), in Cairo, the Arab Republic of Egypt. The delegation of the Sultanate of Oman was headed by Sheikh Ghuson bin Hilal Al Alawi, Chairman of the State Financial and Administrative Audit Authority.The symposium discussed several topics, most notably the practical readiness of audit institutions to implement artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in auditing operations and digital empowerment. It also reviewed the experiences of various countries alongside practical use cases in this field.The sessions highlighted the concept of "Frugal Artificial Intelligence" as an emerging issue and explored ways to enhance its utilisation by Supreme Audit Institutions.Furthermore, the symposium sought to explore the role of artificial intelligence in reshaping government institutional frameworks and the audit system as part of comprehensive digital transformation efforts. It also addressed mechanisms for managing associated risks, identifying potential challenges and gaps, and efficiently mitigating them.During the symposium, the Authority presented a working paper titled "Challenges Associated with Artificial Intelligence," which outlined five primary challenges. These encompassed data quality and the accuracy of results, transparency and interpretability, privacy and cybersecurity, in addition to institutional readiness.The Authority’s participation in this symposium underscores its ongoing commitment to keeping pace with modern technological advancements. It also reflects its dedication to leveraging artificial intelligence solutions to support the audit system, thereby contributing to enhanced institutional performance efficiency and facilitating the exchange of expertise and future visions with the Supreme Audit Institutions of participating nations.
