TESCO is now selling an iconic slice of nostalgia that has shoppers rushing to the aisles. The sweet treat has been spotted in stores nationwide – and costs just £6.50. A school lunch classic has been spotted in the aisles of Tesco, with eagle-eyed shoppers dubbing the treat “a need”. Topped with the iconic white and brown icing reminiscent of simpler days at school, the little treats come with multi-coloured sprinkles and a pot of custard. First posted on Facebook by New Food Spotter UK, shoppers have been excited at the prospect of reliving their childhood favourite, with some saying, “I need this please!!!” and “we have to give it a whirl!”. Another simply commented: “Tesco trip ASAP”. Made by The Little Bakery World, the bite-sized sweets are available in the birthday cake aisle as well as the Tesco website, with the description reading: “Delicious vanilla and chocolate school cakes with a custard dip. Enjoy hot or cold!”. However, some shoppers wanting to take a trip down memory lane have been left disappointed by the colour of the custard. Comments including “surely it needs to be pink custard” and “should be pink custard” have been pouring in, which raised questions with others about which schools exactly were serving the pink-hued pudding. Most read in Money School cakes have been a staple in British primary schools since at least the early 20th century, with many calling the dish “a classic”.
