GRABBING my gym bag and water bottle, I get ready to leave the park where I have my weekly personal training sessions. But before I head home, there is one more thing I need to do – and it involves booking a different type of PT session altogether. Friends and family would be shocked to hear about my trysts with the man teaching me how to lift weights and swing kettlebells, but they’ve been going on for nearly a year now, and my husband hasn’t got a clue. I decided to invest in a PT shortly after celebrating my 45th birthday, when I was feeling rubbish about my body. Since I’d had our two kids, my son Henry, now four, and Sophia, two, I just couldn’t shift the stubborn band of belly fat around my middle. Along with the bulging tummy came a 2st weight gain, meaning I couldn’t fit into my favourite size 10 jeans any more. My husband of fifteen years, Tim, 47, an accountant, didn’t make me feel great about my body either. Coming up from behind as I was clearing up after my birthday dinner, he squeezed my belly and said: “Ooh, who’s a little Oompa Loompa?” He was teasing, but it made my self-esteem tumble. I’d usually just brush it off, though I didn’t want him to know that his comments hurt as much as they did. We hadn’t had sex since my daughter’s birth two years ago, and I really didn’t feel up for it even now. Tim didn’t show interest in getting our sex life back on track, and I just let it slide too. It was a mutual thing. When I was younger, I’d always run, but since having kids I had become seriously unfit. I felt being size 14 just didn’t suit me, and I desperately wanted to get back to my pre-baby size 10 figure. So that night, I hit Instagram looking for a local personal trainer. After a bit of research, I found a male PT who had a couple of super-fit-looking female clients. Filled with hope, I reached out to him by direct message. Sean was so good-looking in the pics and reminded me of one of TV’s Gladiators. He looked the spitting image of Legend, with intense eyes, rippling biceps and an incredible six-pack. As a self-employed aesthetic nurse, my business is up and down, but I could just about afford to pay for the £70 one-hour sessions myself. I didn’t tell Tim, as I thought he would ridicule me. There was an element of resentment from my side because he’d dented my confidence so many times and it felt like revenge too. For the first session, we met in a local park. A good decade younger than me, Sean immediately put me at ease as he told me: “You’re in good shape for a woman who’s had two kids.” The first three weekly sessions were hell, and at points, I was so out of breath that I had to keep stopping. But Sean always encouraged me. He’d tell me that he’d been the same when he’d first started weight lifting, that he’d struggled and wanted to give up at times. He always made me want to do better, and so I kept going. I think I needed that boost after having kids and feeling like my body was no longer my own. When I came back from my third session, I finally confided in Tim and explained I was feeling great because I was finally doing something for me. “So who’s the trainer?” he asked. I showed him Sean’s Instagram and Tim immediately became furious. “What the hell?” he stammered. “Is this guy even a personal trainer? He’s like 20 and ripped. “Why can’t you just join a gym like everyone else?” On the defensive, I told him that as I was paying for it myself, it was none of his business. It felt daft for him to get upset, as, for a start, I never imagined Sean would find me attractive. But during our fourth session, I realised I had butterflies in my tummy whenever I looked at him. He was so gorgeous and handsome with his massive biceps and bright, confident smile. At the end of the session, Sean suggested we go for coffee at a nearby juice bar. “I am so proud of how much effort you’re putting in,” he said as we sat down. “I can see that we’re going to be a winning combination.” It was all in stark contrast to Tim, who never said anything positive to me and hadn’t told me he fancied me since the Noughties. I went home, and just thinking about Sean made me feel aroused. Unfortunately, it didn’t make Tim any more attractive, though. If anything, it made him feel less appealing as I was comparing him to Sean. Just two days later, he sent me a text saying how much he’d enjoyed our coffee chat. But it was the final line of his message that stunned me. “I can’t stop thinking about you,” he wrote. My stomach did a somersault. I’m not an impulsive person, but I texted back right away and told him I liked him a lot and was also thinking about him. I even ended it with a heart emoji and then waited, my heart in my mouth, wondering if I’d gone too far. Seconds later, a message popped up: “Shall we meet in a hotel for our next session?” Vicki thought Sean looked just like a TV Gladiator (Stock image posed by model) Credit: Getty Sean’s PT plan for Vicki didn’t involve treadmills or dumbbells (Stock image posed by model) Credit: Getty He clearly wasn’t talking about personal training anymore. I wish I could say that I felt guilty, but I didn’t. Just five days later, I put my exercise gear on after the school and nursery drop-off – but wore a lovely skimpy push-up, black bra and lacy knickers. I didn’t want Tim to suspect anything when I headed out as he works from home, but thankfully he was locked in his office. When I arrived at the fancy boutique hotel bar – about a 20-minute drive from where I lived Sean flashed me a room keycard and dragged me by the hand to the lifts. Just seeing that keycard made me feel giddy! Once upstairs, we couldn’t keep our hands off each other. I was nervous, as he was so much younger than me, but Sean kept complimenting me, telling me I was gorgeous. The session lasted about an hour and a half. It was the best sex of my life, and I had two orgasms, which is unheard of for me. I couldn’t even remember the last time I’d climaxed. After that, we continued with our weekly training sessions in the park, but also met up in the same hotel once a month. I wanted to sleep with him more often, but I was also feeling a bit guilty. I mean Tim and I weren’t an ideal match, but he didn’t deserve this kind of treatment. I didn’t even feel embarrassed checking into a hotel in the morning. I was just so excited – and Tim didn’t suspect a thing. The fact he didn’t suspect anything made it worse but also made me feel like he wasn’t noticing me anymore anyway. I was worried, however, that someone might see us – a friend or a local mum and it would be obvious what was going on. “I feel weird charging you full price,” Sean said after we’d trained in the park one day. “I think I’ll have to give you a 50 per cent discount.” When I’m with Sean, I’m no longer a mum, or a nag… I feel like I did when I was 18. Sean shares videos of me training on his socials, and watching them, I feel a secret thrill. I have another mum friend who confided in me that she is also having an affair with her PT, so I know I’m not alone. Sometimes a tired, overwhelmed woman needs a change. I know that we won’t settle down and that this is just an affair. Sean is single; he said he’d split with his last girlfriend a couple of months back, but I do sometimes feel like he might be sleeping with other clients. We avoid relationship conversations, and I know we don’t have long-term potential. He’s younger than me. And in the back of my head, I want things to work out with Tim. We don’t talk about the future, and that’s fine with me. If Tim found out and left me, so be it – me and the kids would be fine. There’s been another benefit of seeing Sean, too – I’ve lost 2st, and am now a size 10 when I used to be a 14! So I’m getting a new body AND great sex – all at the same time. *Names have been changed
