Often travelling between London and Hong Kong, she knows all the tricks to dealing with little passengers on long flights. Sign up for the Travel newsletter Thank you! She told Sun Travel: “Having personally navigated the airport dash with a buggy and a biscuit-bribed toddler, changed nappies mid-turbulence, and even fished raisins from seat pockets at 3am, I can attest that travelling with children can feel overwhelming. Yet, those early flights, despite the stress and mess, also created some of my favourite family memories. “With a little planning and the right strategies, our goal is to empower parents to feel confident and prepared, allowing them to relax and truly enjoy the experience.” With Google searches for ‘flying with kids’ skyrocketing +927%, Katy has compiled a crucial list for jet setting parents that are looking to conquer common parental travel challenges. 2+2 seat booking trick She explained: “Sometimes children don’t get along and it can be at the worst possible time. “For sibling harmony on long flights, book two seats per row, front and back, allowing for separation or togetherness – avoiding any pending squabbles.” Most read in Travel Stick to the routine When it comes to sleeping, she said that there are a few tiny ways to make it as pain free as possible. She explained: “Routine gives comfort in unfamiliar spaces. “If you’re flying overnight, change them into their pyjamas on board. Bring their bedtime story or sleep toy. “It sends the signal that it’s time to settle, even at 35,000 feet.” Give the kids TV and new toys – and don’t bad about it, says Katy Credit: Getty Don’t feel bad if you have to resort to some TV time too. She said: “Flight time is not real life. Let them watch their favourite shows or play tablet games to their heart’s content. “It keeps them entertained, calm, and happy, ensuring your calm and happiness too.” Pack wisely There are lots of things you don’t need – and lots you do. She conitnued: “Forget the fancy outfit changes and matching accessories, they’ll end up under the seat. “Focus on the essentials: wipes, snacks, distractions. A carryon is your best friend. “I always packed a small ‘emergency kit’ with surprises, a new toy or colouring book worked wonders when things got wobbly.” If your child wants to pack their own little rucksack, let them. “Even if it only has a sticker sheet, a sock and half a banana, it gives them independence and excitement. “My three loved having something that felt like ‘theirs’.” Comment now
