And I was among the first shoppers to give it a go before the doors officially opened. The scan uses an advanced lens, operated by an Beauty Advisor, to assess factors including skin oil and hydration levels as well as supporting more precise foundation shade matching. The results allow Sephora experts to tailor recommendations to each customer, making beauty discovery more personal than ever. The lens, attached to a smartphone, is placed against the face in three areas – the forehead, cheek and outer eye. It takes super close up pictures and then uses tech to analyse your skin. So I fully expected to have some pretty dire results. But in the last few years I have really been paying more attention to my skin, spending a bit more on products and NEVER forgetting to take off my make-up. To my surprise, it seems like the recent changes have paid off – because I got, for the most part, a glowing report. The bad news first. My skin type, according to the scan, is dry and my hydration level is low. This means I need to be replenishing my face with more products containing things like hyaluronic acid or squalane. But otherwise it was good news all round. My sebum levels are normal, which means I’m not producing too much oil. My pores are barely visible and, most shockingly of all, my skin shows minimal fine lines. All in all, I need to just keep doing what I’m doing, which is using daily SPF, cleansing, toning and moisturising. But the tech did recommend a couple of products to help with dehydration, including Ole Henriksen’s peptide boost moisturiser. The scan also colour-matched my skin to help me choose a foundation that’s right for me. I like a light coverage and the scanner suggested Sephora’s Soft Radiant Skin Tint in a fair shade. I tried a little on my cheek and was gobsmacked by how perfectly it had chosen my colour. And at just £17.99 it was a no-brainer to snap up. For anyone worried about their skin or who doesn’t know where to start when it comes to a daily routine, this clever bit of kit is a brilliant and simple way to get expert advice. Comment now
