Ilhan Omar's Staff Scrambled To Change Her Birth Year Days After Fraud Allegations Emerged

One day after federal agents raided Ilhan Omar's Washington home, we lear that her congressional staff got her birth year changed in Minnesota's official legislative records in May 2019, moving it from 1981 to 1982 - months after she was sworn into Congress. Alpha News was first to the punchbowl on this one last December. In light of the federal raid on Omar's DC home... well, check it out: Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) (AP/J. Scott Applewhite) Omar has said she derived citizenship through her father, Nur Omar Mohamed, when he naturalized in 2000, and the law then required the child to be under 18 when the parent naturalized. Born in 1981, she'd have been an adult all of 2000 - the year she says she became a citizen at 17, the NY Post reports. For her two years in the Minnesota House and more than four months into her congressional term, the state's Legislative Reference Library listed her birthday as Oct. 4, 1981, the same date carried by Wikipedia, the BBC and Congress's own Biographical Directory.Via NY PostTwo days after a video questioning her age went viral, Omar's congressional staff called in a correction. On May 17, 2019, they told the library the year was wrong and, in its director's words in a May 24 email, "requested that we change it to 1982." The director added that her staff were working to get Wikipedia and the congressional directory changed too.Nothing in the emails the Post quoted says what documentation, if any, Omar's staff produced for 1982. The library's legislator page now vouches for it: "Her birth year is correct. It is incorrectly reported as 1981 in other sources."As noted above, Alpha News reported the switch last December, citing former congressional candidate AJ Kern, whose video on Omar was shared by President Trump's Truth Social account. According to the Post, people familiar with the multi-year federal criminal probe have suggested she's being looked at for false statements on immigration forms.Homeland Security Investigations agents executed a court-authorized search warrant at her DC home early Monday, part of what the Justice Department called an ongoing federal investigation. No charges have been announced.Whatever happened in 2000 is beyond prosecutors' reach: citizenship, naturalization and passport offenses carry a 10-year statute of limitations. The live exposure is anything Omar has signed in the last decade that repeats a birth date - a passport renewal, say. That clock only covers prosecution; it can't make someone a citizen who never derived citizenship in the first place. Could Trump just boot her out of the country?Omar, who says she "will not be silenced," has repeatedly denied any immigration fraud and called the raid the latest escalation in a decade of Trump attacks on her. Her office didn't immediately respond to the Post.
