IGL hikes CNG prices by ₹3.89 per kg as LNG prices stay elevated

The revised price will come into effect by 6 a.m. on August 29, 2026. North India’s largest city-gas distributor Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL) informed late on Friday (August 28, 2026) that it would be increasing the price of compressed natural gas (CNG) across all its retail stations by ₹3.89 per kg as international prices of the input gas, that is, LNG, continues to remain elevated amid the re-escalation of the conflict in West Asia, effective Saturday (August 29, 2026).With the latest revision, the vehicular gas in Delhi would now cost ₹86.98 per kilogram. Friday’s (August 28, 2026) hike would be the fifth such increase since the onset of the conflict in West Asia.In a statement, IGL explained that re-escalation of the conflict in West Asia has continued to affect cargo movement across the Strait of Hormuz. As a result, it observed, “Global LNG prices have nearly doubled as compared to pre-crisis period. Additionally, there is an urgency in Europe to increase their natural gas storage on account of approaching winter season.”It added that a significant portion of requirements are being met through the more expensive spot purchases.Thus, it stated, “With international LNG prices remaining elevated and the cost impact becoming increasingly significant, a calibrated revision of ₹3.89 per kg has now become necessary to partially offset the increase in input gas cost while ensuring continuity and reliability of CNG supplies.”Before this, the price of CNG in several cities of North India had increased cumulatively by ₹6 per kg across four tranches since May 15.
