Sign in to your XDA account Summary There's a widespread Google Home and Nest outage right now, causing devices to be unresponsive, stuck on blank screens, or to reboot. This is likely a server-side problem; don't factory reset your devices — it probably won't help. Google doesn't have a smart home status page, so it's unclear when services will be restored. Last night, I asked my Nest Hub to turn off all the smart lights in my house, as I always do, only to be greeted by a spinning wheel and what seemed like a random reboot. I eventually resorted to turning the lights off via the Philips Hue app after assuming it was an isolated issue, which has unfortunately become far too common with Google and Nest smart home products. However, that isn't the case — there's a widespread outage affecting Google Home and Nest users worldwide right now. According to dozens of posts on the Google Home subreddit, the outage appears to be affecting a wide range of Google Home devices, including the Nest Hub, the Google Home Mini/Nest Mini, and even third-party Google Assistant-powered smart displays. Devices are either stuck on a blank screen or are totally unresponsive to voice prompts. Multiple users have also reported that straightforward routines are entirely broken. It's unclear what the source of the issue is, or when devices will start working again Google doesn't maintain a smart home services status page Given how widespread the issue is and the fact that it's hit a wide variety of Google Home and Nest devices, it's likely a server-side problem. With that in mind, don't bother factory resetting your devices, because it most likely won't solve the problem. Unfortunately, Google doesn't have a status page for its smart home services, so it's difficult to know for sure when devices will be up and running again. This morning, my Nest Hub responded to my voice commands and turned on my office lights, but there are still reports on Reddit of Google Home device owners encountering issues. XDA has reached out to Google for comment and will update this story with more information when it's available. Do you own a Google Home or Nest device that's unresponsive right now? Let us know in the comments. These issues appeared shortly after the launch of Google's new Home Speaker and Gemini for Home. While I found the smart speaker to work well, despite being a minor step back in sound quality compared to the Nest Audio, the fact that many of its best features are locked behind a premium Gemini subscription is disappointing.
