Here's everything we know about this powerhouse mutant's transformation. Debuting in 1992, X-Men's Kwannon - aka Psylocke - is a trained ninja with immense telepathic and telekinetic powers, including the ability to forge weapons out of psionic energy. Currently serving on Marvel's main X-Men roster alongside founding members Cyclops and Beast, Psylocke is at the forefront of the franchise, with multiple recent solo series to her name. So of course, Marvel has taken the obvious next step for any successful character... mash them up with Ghost Rider. Psylocke Reveals Her 'GHOSTLOCKE' Logo This September, Marvel is bringing back the Marvel Mangaverse imprint. One of the books in the new wave of titles is Marvel Mangaverse: Ghostlocke, coming from Alyssa Wong and Michael YG. Now. thanks to preview pages shared by AIPT, fans can see this new version of Psylocke in action. Kwannon is shown by a deathly portal, wielding a skull-covered scythe and wearing a leather jacket with her new logo on the back. The logo combines a skull and Psylocke's psychic 'butterfly' manifestation, traditionally appearing around her face when she uses her telepathic abilities. Several images from the preview stand out. Ghostlocke is shown plunging her scythe through one cultist, suggesting this is her latest psionic weapon. The portal that eats her targets also appears to be of Kwannon's creation, hinting how crossing her abilities with Ghost Rider could have unique effects. The new comic will see Ghostlocke taking on a demonic version of Carnage, in a world where magic has supplanted technology. Replacing Ghost Rider's hellfire with psionic flames, Ghostlocke rides a Shinigami bike to take out vicious oni, playing her part in the interconnected story which begins in Marvel Mangaverse: Web of Blood. Former Psylocke Is Getting Her Own Codename Change While Kwannon is reinvented in the Mangaverse, former Psylocke Betsy Braddock (who spent decades possessing Kwannon's body) is getting a new identity. The upcoming Maximum X-Men will see Storm assemble a mutant team to replace the absent Avengers, with Betsy (back in her own body) on the roster. Writer Christopher Yost has confirmed that Betsy will have a new codename in the issue, following her tenure as Captain Britain. Indeed, it's likely this new codename will debut in October 14's Captain Britain 50th Anniversary Special, which will explore the past, present and future of both Betsy and her twin brother Brian. Marvel often uses anniversary specials to set up future stories, and is likely to do the same for Betsy. Psylocke Isn't the Only X-Men Hero Getting a Redesign With both the current and former Psylocke being reinvented, X-Men fans may think there's no room for more. However, they couldn't be more wrong. The Mangaverse revival includes a slate of modern heroes, with new names and designs for Miles Morales (Spinja), Magik (Legion) and X-23 (Weapon X-Tremis), as well as drastic reinventions for Ironheart, Moon Knight, Bucky Barnes and more. Many of these heroes didn't exist or weren't prominent during the original Mangaverse era, and so this is the first time they'll be reimagined in the imprint's unique style - specifically, with a focus on magic overpowering science in this reality. After several years in the spotlight, X-Men's Psylocke is getting a total reinvention in the Marvel Mangaverse imprint, combining her with classic antihero Ghost Rider. Battling against a magic-enhanced Carnage and wielding a psionic scythe, Psylocke's reinvention comes complete with a new logo that celebrates the X-Men hero's demonic dual nature. Marvel Mangaverse: Ghostlocke #1 is coming September 23 from Marvel Comics, following Marvel Mangaverse: Web of Blood #1 on September 2.
