Iconic British homeware brand to shut ALL its UK stores by end of this week – including 200-year-old flagship location

A HISTORIC British homeware brand will shut all remaining stores in less than a week’s time – as the retailer issues a final farewell. This follows the 217-year-old firm’s collapse into administration earlier this year. Denby Pottery will close all remaining locations this week as the historic brand says good-bye to its 217- year-old legacy Credit: Press Photo Denby is set to host its final closing down sale, as the historic brand readies to shut its flagship destination – Denby Pottery Village – this Sunday (August 30). All remaining locations in Ashford, Portsmouth, Braintree, York, Dalton Park, Castleford and Cheshire Oaks, are also set to close this week. Sign up for the Money newsletter Thank you! Tony Wright, joint administrator of the Denby group of companies and partner at FRP said it was a “sad moment to see the Pottery Village close after so many years” and that he hoped as many people would come to give the historic brand the “send-off it deserves”. He added: “While the stores are closing, the Denby brand itself will continue under new ownership, ensuring its legacy lives on.” Denby’s fall into administration came as the brand faced “enormous financial challenges” over the last three years, as a result of reduced demand for its products and “escalating” employment costs. Attempts to rescue the business came in the form of the #SaveDenby campaign, supported with 40,000 people and the backing of local MP Linsey Farnsworth. However, this was not enough to save the iconic retailer, with all production at its Derbyshire site closed in May this year and more than 120 staff members made redundant. Established in 1809, the iconic brand gained recognition for its distinctive Imperial Blue range. Denby’s sister brand, Burleigh Pottery, was separately acquired in June 2026, allowing its Stoke-on-Trent production to continue. Comment now
