Iconic British homeware brand is saved from administration – but all stores will still shut next week

AN ICONIC British homeware brand has been saved after collapsing into administration earlier this year. Despite continuing under new ownership, all of the firm’s stores are still set to close. Following a period of financial difficulties for the company, including soaring costs and low consumer confidence, the firm appointed Tony Wright and Geoff Rowley of FRP Advisory as administrators. A buyer for the full business was not found, and Denby stopped its production by the end of June. The new owner is yet to be announced, and FRP have not disclosed what assets have been bought in the deal. Following the firm’s collapse into administration, a petition was launched to include the ceramics industry in a business support scheme, which would particularly help with cutting soaring energy costs. It received over 110,000 signatures but was unable to rescue the company. Despite the announcement, the business will still close all its stores this week. All trading will cease by the end of Sunday, August 30, with around 600 jobs expected to be lost when all stores close. Huge closing down sales have been launched across the company’s portfolio of branches, with sales items beginning at £2 per item and bundles available from just £6. Denby’s website is no longer accepting online orders, however the company has assured customers that “all orders that have already been placed will still be fulfilled by the end of August”. Any shoppers who have exchanged Tesco Clubcard vouchers for Denby vouchers that have not been able to complete their shopping due to the ongoing company changes have been advised to speak with Tesco Customer Services.
