Iconic British card chain with over 140 stores launches ‘everything must go’ sale as it shuts down ANOTHER branch

AN ICONIC British card chain with over 140 sites across the UK is preparing to shutter another branch for good. Staff have slashed prices at the store by up to 20% as they look to shift stock before departing the high street. It comes after signs were spotted in the shop window reading: “Don’t miss out. Store closing.” Plus, a 20% “Everything Must Go” sale has also been launched. Talk of the closure has left many locals heartbroken, with one branding the move “sad”. Another said: “Love this shop, sad to see it go have some lovely bits.” However, others were not so grief- stricken by the news, with one saying it was “always overpriced” and they were “surprised it lasted so long.” Clintons was first launched back in 1968 and is a favourite for many Brits looking for greeting cards. Most read in Money The chain was acquired by Pillarbox Designs, the parent company of Cardzone two years ago. Prior this this, it had been owned by the Weiss family, founders of UK Greetings’ parent company American Greetings. At its peak, the chain boasted more than 1,000 branches across the country. But this has since been whittled down to around 140 sites. It comes as both brands have made a string of closures in the past year as they feel the pain of rising prices and shoppers having less cash to burn. Cardzone is preparing to shutter a branch in Sheffield on September 5. The chain also shuttered a branch in Newport in July and in Didcot in January. Meanwhile, Clintons closed sites across Rugby Central, Newcastle and ts West Yorkshire last year. The Sun has approached Clintons for comment. Comment now
