Iconic Avengers Hero Gets Their Best Art Of All Time, Bar None

Marvel Comics formed the Avengers in 1963, with Iron Man, Thor, Ant-Man, Wasp, and Hulk banding together to fight Loki. The newly-unfrozen Captain America became one of Earth's Mightiest Heroes a few months later after Hulk departed, and other early additions included Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, Black Panther, and Vision. Decades later, dozens of characters have filled the ranks of the various Avengers teams, including heavy hitters from other corners of Marvel's landscape, like Spider-Man, Wolverine, and Doctor Strange. Some Avengers members are more well known than others, particularly those who’ve been spotlighted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Others aren’t as easily recognizable to the public who don't read the comics. While Tigra falls into the latter category given her limited appearances outside the comics, she nonetheless has a long history with the Avengers. Now Marvel has depicted the character in her best piece of artwork yet. Tigra Has Never Looked Cooler In Marvel Comics Marc Spector: Moon Knight #8, Written by Jed MacKay, Art By Devmalya Pramanik Marvel Comics Marc Spector: Moon Knight #8 picks up immediately after Issue #7, when the titular protagonist seemingly betrayed Blade, Daredevil, and Ghost Rider by giving them up to the Mansion Ravenous because of their experiences with possession. Marc did this in exchange for this entity releasing his Midnight Mission allies, including Tigra, a.k.a. Greer Nelson. She and Marc have a romantic history going back to when they served in the West Coast Avengers together, and they started dating again during Jed MacKay’s continuing run on the various Moon Knight titles, which has been going since 2021. Moon Knight and Dark Dimension sorcerer Clea ultimately enact a secret plan to free both their Midnight Sons teammates and Marc’s allies from the Mansion Ravenous. However, Blade, Daredevil, and Ghost Rider are initially angry about what Marc did and ready to pick a fight with him. Tigra promptly jumps to her boyfriend’s defense, resulting in the amazing depiction above by Devmalya Pramanik. With the vibrant orange fur and black stripes, the glowing eyes, and the long, sweeping tail, this is the Cat Person in her coolest, and arguably most fearful, appearance yet. Tigra Has Joined A New Superhero Team Fortunately, cooler heads prevailed, and Moon Knight doesn't have to tussle with Blade, Daredevil, and Ghost Rider once they learn how the deception was necessary for what Marc and Clea had planned. With the Mansion Ravenous still a threat, Clea arms the aforementioned heroes, as well as Soldier, Reese Williams, 8-Ball, Hunter’s Moon, and all the regular human members of Midnight Mission, with magical weapons. The Midnight Sons have become the Midnight Militia. What remains to be seen is if this evolved superhero group is a temporary alliance, or if it will stick around for a while. Either way, this is the latest of the many teams the vengeful Tigra has been part of since Greer was introduced in 1972’s The Claws of the Cat #1, back when she battled evildoers as The Cat. Her debut as Tigra followed in 1974’s Giant-Size Creatures #1. She’s also been affiliated with the Defenders Beyond, Lady Liberators, and Avengers Academy, among others. If the Midnight Militia is here to stay, whether it’s just in the pages of Marc Spector: Moon Knight or eventually appearing in other Marvel titles, Tigra is a welcome member even beyond her relationship with Marc. Along with her physical abilities, including razor-sharp claws and fangs, Greer also has a superpowered form of empathy, as well as owns the Cat’s Head Talisman, which lets her change from her feline form to human appearance.
